It is the policy of HSSQ Company to provide protection to all his employees from substandard acts and conditions on the worksite. All employees of HSSQ Company have the right and responsibility to “Stop the Work” if the condition threatens the safety and health of workers.
In view of our company’s commitment to safety, all employees are hereby given the authority to stop work if such a hazard or unsafe condition arises. In all situations / circumstances where imminent danger exists which cannot be corrected immediately and the employees need to be removed from the work area until it is made safe to continue the work, a “Stop Work Order” shall be implemented.
Implementing Stop Work Authority reinforces a proactive safety mindset among employees. It shifts the focus from the dreaded reactive approach where incidents are addressed only after they occur to a proactive approach where hazards are identified by all employees and addressed before they lead to an accident.
Stop Work Authority (SWA) is best viewed as a safety policy or procedure that authorizes and empowers employees to stop an action or condition, they consider to be unsafe.
Examples of how stop work authority has been used to prevent accidents and injuries: Employee sees a coworker operating a machine without proper safety gear. The employee stops work and explains the hazard to their coworker.
Employees are encouraged to act accordingly and report the incident to their immediate supervisor / concerned authorities nearest to site.
If an emergency does occur, you should remember and follow the S.T.O.P principle. Stop: Remain Calm and analyze the situation.
